Maar hun einde is nabij: Gorbatsjov en Helmut Kohl schudden elkaar de hand, wat onverwachte gevolgen heeft, zelfs voor henzelf. De confrontatie tussen het socialistische en kapitalistische blok loopt ten einde, maar de confrontatie tussen het socialistische en kapitalistische Duitsland niet. De oude partijleiders zitten nog steeds in hun kantoren, veranderen niets en wachten op uitroepen uit Moskou.
